John Gordon knows the sweet taste of victory. He was one half of the songwriting team behind last year's winner of the Eurovision Song Contest. Along with American Julie Frost wrote "Satellite" which was sung by German Lene Meyer Landrut. John Gordon was at the finals in Oslo
, which he describes as a totally surreal experience.
- We failed to gain a place in the green room, so we sat in the hall with a bunch of drunken Norwegians around us. As it dawned on them that we had written the German song, they began to cheer for us, so it was very festive. Later that evening we walked around in Oslo
's streets with the giant glass trophy and tried to drum up a beer to celebrate our victory, but it can be pretty difficult in Norway

This year, John Gordon has been invited to write a winning song for the Danish Melodi Grand Prix, and for that he allied himself with two friends - Lene Dissing and Peter Bjørnskov from STAR TONE Music in Aarhus. Lene Dissing and Peter Bjørnskov are old acquaintances in the Grand Prix context. Peter wrote the song 'Breathing', which was submitted by Bryan Rice and got a nice second place finish at last year's Danish Melodi Grand Prix, while Lene was one of the songwriters behind the winning song in Andora in 2009. For the Danish Melodi Grand Prix 2011, the three with the song 'Sleepless'. |
